This fall Paul Niemisto, Vintage Band Festival’s Artistic Director, will be teaching a course at the Cannon Valley Elder Collegium. The course begins on September 14 and runs for eight Mondays. Each session will be two hours. This is from the CVEC website:

“Overview: I have spent my career making brass and other wind instrument music, teaching others to do so, founding and leading music ensembles, studying and writing about them. The question I ask myself is “what are the things I would most like to share about brass and wind instrument music more broadly with a group of CVEC students?”—things they wouldn’t encounter simply through their own curiosity. That is my goal in this course. I call it a “salad” because there is no overarching theme or historical trajectory, just what I hope you will be glad to know about these topics. There will be reading, listening to music, discussion, and some sharing of facts and history by me that isn’t covered in the readings.

Course Materials and Class Schedule: Preparation for class will involve some reading. The short reading for the first week will be sent to the class as an e-mail attachment. The readings for Weeks 2-8 have been incorporated into a coursebook to be delivered to students at the first class, for which there will be an extra charge of $6 to be paid at the time of registration. Occasional out-of-class “listenings” will be made available as YouTube links.”
